Onwards and upwards for RCQ as Townsville office expands six fold
Proving Townsville is a thriving regional centre full of opportunity,
Queensland construction company RCQ has relocated to larger premises to cater for a team that has grown six fold and managing some $30 million of construction projects in the pipeline.
Formerly trading as Reed Construction (Qld), RCQ established itself in Townsville in October 2006 and has recently moved from an 80sqm office space at 9 Palmer Street to a 235sqm office at 65 Palmer Street.
RCQ Director and CEO Steve Cole said eighteen months on, he and his team were very excited about their success in Townsville and the plethora of opportunities to come in this booming region.
“Since we established our Townsville office we have successfully completed the $1 million refurbishment of The Australian Hotel, finished a commercial fit out and refurbishment of the Vincent Shopping Centre, undergone a company rebrand and expanded our permanent Townsville team,” he said.
“We are enormously proud of our achievements and excited at the prospect of being a part of more great projects in this growing region.”
Currently under construction and progressing at an impressive rate is the Metropole Hotel and Pub Refurbishment at 81 Palmer Street, completely project managed by the RCQ team for the Oaks Group.
RCQ North Queensland Manager
Chris Ahern said despite the equivalent of three weeks wet weather since the beginning of the project, the new 12 story, five star hotel was skyrocketing from the ground.
“It seems we have conquered the turbulent North Queensland weather with the Metropole Hotel rising at an amazing pace of one level completed every working week,” he said.
“Full of local history, the Metropole is a significant hotel for Townsville and we are honoured to contribute to what will no doubt be a thriving new accommodation facility and hospitality hub for the city.”
A complete refurbishment of the existing Metropole pub is also underway with both the hotel and pub expected to be open for business by the end of 2008.
Undergoing a total structural refurbishment internally, locals will be pleased to know the pub, built in 1886, will retain its heritage features and renowned character including the iconic bull nose verandah and balcony above with existing decorative cast iron balustrades.
Locals can look forward to new and improved features including a gaming room, sports bar, cocktail bar, tapas dining area and alfresco dining downstairs and a functions room with the capacity for 200 people planned for upstairs.
