Located on the popular café strip of Palmer Street in South Townsville, The Australian Hotel was refurbished in three main stages with renovations completed within the 5½ months allocated timeframe ready for trading before the 2007 Christmas period.
RCQ’s North Queensland Team developed a Construction Staging Plan that allowed the Hotel to continue trading throughout the course of redevelopment.
Key stages of the refurbishment involved the relocation of the pokies facilities, a front bar upgrade, re-roofing, new windows and bi-fold doors, a new designated outdoor smoking area, commercial kitchen upgrade, landscaping to the rear courtyard and a systems modernisation throughout
Following refurbishment, The Australian Hotel has become one of the best known and frequented traditional Hotels in Townsville and was recently recognised in the 2008 Townsville Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards.
